June 2013 Meeting — 4 Comments

  1. It is becoming increasingly apparent to me that there are members in the Chamber who see it as a watch dog over the Village Council. I do not believe that this is the purpose of any Chamber. It is our purpose and mission to increase the business and healthiness of our community.

  2. I do not agree with that assessment, I think many of our members are trying to obtain information and answers to a variety of questions and issues. I also think that the economy also is putting everyone on the defensive. We seem to be failing to recognise that we are all after the same, common goal – a strong community.

  3. I, too, agree with Linda. I went to the Village Open House and informational get-to-gether Thurs eve., not as a “watchdog”, but as the caring community member and business owner that I think I have presented all the 12 years Mike and I have lived in McBride. I come from a background of active participation which values the special skills we both have. I also totally enjoyed the Village clean-up day and my hotdog. From my perspective, I have not seen or felt the “increase of business” or “healthiness” of our community. People need jobs.

  4. It will be interesting to see how Valemount’s Advisory Planning Commission (APC) comes together, operates and interacts with the local Council. Perhaps this is a mechanism that bears consideration in other communities.
