Community Futures Presents

For Immediate Release
March 31, 2016

SMALL BUSINESS SUCCESSION PLANNING – McBride and Valemount

McBride, BC -

Community Futures Fraser Fort George along with Ministry of Jobs, Tourism and Skills Training and the McBride & District and Valemount & Area Chamber’s of Commerce are pleased to announce that collectively we will be hosting two small business succession planning workshops in April.

McBride: April 20, 7-9pm 521 Main Street, McBride
Valemount: April 21, 7-9pm Best Western, Valemount

These workshops are being offered in response to data collected during Business Walks that showed that a significant number of small business owners in the Robson Valley region were interested in selling or retiring in the next five years.

According to the Canadian Federation of Independent Businesses, only one third (35 per cent) of small and medium business owners have planned for their future succession and among those who have a succession plan, the majority are informal, unwritten plans, which have not been shared with the intended successor. These businesses are important to the Robson Valley as they provide essential products and services to area residents, create and sustain jobs, and play a large role in contributing to the economic output of our region.

Our organizations recognize the importance of proactive small business succession planning and these workshops have been designed to give business owners the information and tools needed to undertake a successful transition. There is no charge to participate, and interested business owners are encouraged to attend whichever date and location suits them best.

It's a world-wide scavenger hunt! Caches are hidden in various locations
(some may even be near you right now). At your leisure, you can use a GPS
unit or your smartphone to find them. To play, simply log into
geocaching.com; caches in your area will be ranked from easy to find to
extremely difficult. Geocaching is a great way to get in your 10,000 steps
(the recommended daily amount) and to explore new areas. With this nice
weather, why not give geocaching a shot? It's an activity the whole family
can do! Orienteering and geocaching do more than provide a fun physical
activity. They are also ways to teach children about GPS, enhance your map
reading skills and sense of direction, and help you discover new areas in
your community.
